Well it finally cooled off here in Atlanta! In fact, it’s almost as if we skipped fall and went straight to “cold” weather. I say “cold” because it never really gets that cold in Atlanta. Especially when you compare it to places like South Bend, Indiana where I went to college! The past few days it’s been in the high forties, low fifties in the morning, but climbing up to the sixties by the afternoon. These kind of days call for plenty of layers so that you can adjust your outfit as the day goes on. So today, I thought I’d share a few fall layering tips.
Opt for an open knit cardigan.
I personally prefer layers over wearing a coat on these days as I don’t want to haul around a bulky jacket when I don’t need it. So when I don’t want a coat, I typically reach for a long open knit cardigan like the one I’m wearing here. It adds a nice layer of warmth without feeling bulky and is much cozier than a heavy jacket anyways.
Choose a color palette and stick to it!
Whether it’s earthy tones, rich fall hues, or neutrals, when layering, always choose a color palette and stick to it. For today’s look, I went with the earth tones and also stuck to solid prints. Don’t be afraid to mix prints though too just stick to the same color scheme.
When in doubt, just add a scarf.
If layering intimidates you, then ease in slow with just a scarf. There are so many fun scarves out this season from blanket scarves, to pretty plaids, to cozy knits. The one I’m wearing today is actually the Target shawl I wore here and here. I love that this piece has so many different styling options. It comes in six colors and is only $16. I can’t recommend it enough!
