I’ve wanted to add a leather jacket to my wardrobe for a while. However, I always felt like it was a little too edgy and masculine for my style. When I saw my favorite blogger, Julia Engel of Gal Meets Glam, whose style is ultra feminine and girly, wear one this past fall on her blog, I decided I could give it a try. Wanting to just dip my toe in the leather jacket water, I bought an affordable faux leather option from Old Navy. This is now the second time I’ve styled it on the blog. From these two looks, I’ve figured out a few tricks for how to look feminine and chic in a leather jacket!
1. Pair your leather jacket with at least one ultra feminine piece
In today’s look, my pink velvet top with the ruffled neckline is my ultra feminine piece that contrasts the harshness of a black leather jacket. The last time I styled this jacket, which you can see here, I paired it with a white floral applique dress – another very feminine piece. Girly dresses, tulle skirts, and lace tops are all great options for that contrasting feminine piece.
2. Choose a ladylike bag
While you’ll have one ultra feminine piece to contrast the leather jacket, a ladylike bag can also help take the edge off. This purse from Target’s A New Day brand has been my go-to as of late. I love that you can wear it as a cross body or remove the strap for a simple, structured, one handled satchel. Some of my other favorite ladylike bags are below!
3. Opt for flats
If you really want to make your leather jacket look feminine and chic, pair it with flats. Boots steer it in the more masculine direction and heels make it a little more edgy. Flats are always elevate a look from basic to chic in my book so they’re the perfect option here. The one I’m wearing today are from J. Crew last year, but here are a few I’m currently loving:
